Products and people and our planet.

The planet Earth supports life. Many forms of living organisms exist on this planet and evolve to become better suited for the changes that happen to their habitats.

Human beings are no different. They have evolved and adapted, but thanks to their minds, have along the way invented tools and processes to make themselves at ease, to become more able, and to survive sudden or unwanted changes.

It is like a chain of continual change. Some people think and invent, some help convert that invention for use in real life, and produce enough to meet the demand, some are the customers who actually drive the production.

Some of it is of course good and essential. But the inventions and manufacturing and the ever increasing demand for the outcome has led to a state where the planet itself is under threat.

How did all this become so big and so rampant that the negative effect on the planet is now a problem that needs to be dealt with?

Companies are built that supply goods for which a market is created by telling you that you need it. Why d you need it if you ask, because your peers have bought it, forget about your real requirement.

People work in those companies to earn a living. New versions are made available, new products are introduced. Customers shift from the old to the new version, those who cannot afford the new, buy the old. Another product springs up to either compliment or compete with others. And the cycle continues.

In an apparent move to save the planet, more products are being created under the banner of ‘eco friendly’. Is that the answer?

What is really needed is a change throughout, an overhaul perhaps of how the world and it’s people are living their life, and spending the money they earn and the choices they make, the work they do, and how it’s done.

More care has to be instilled in people for their surroundings, more awareness about their actual needs, and maybe a step or two towards minimalism could help! The chain has to be made less vicious and more open to adapting as per actual requirements.

Ownership for actions and a resolve for seeing the negative impacts mitigated in reality would be a good start.

More in another story.
